HPU students declare ‘Shiksha Bandh’

In fear of health complications when Shimla police forcibly took away 2 protesting students of department of interdisciplinary studies (DIS) from Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) campus at around 8pm on Friday, who were sitting on hunger strike till death from the last 3 days, the students launched complete ‘Shiksha Bandh’ in HPU on Saturday alleging that HPU authorities are not listening to their demands and now they are suppressing their voices.

While HPU security officer DSP Suresh Chauhan said that when doctors visited the students on protest, they suggested to admit them in hospital as health of the students was getting worse following which the district administration and police peacefully asked the protestors to go to hospital but they were not listening after which police had to take them forcefully. “We did not beat anyone. We just took the two students to IGMC hospital and even spent money from our own pocket to treat them. The two students left hospital around midnight as they were not accused and they cannot be charged for no reason” he said.
